Catching Up!

This week started out with very cold temps as low as -4 on Tues at 7:30 am. Warming a bit every day since but still cold.

Tuesday we had to go out and do something this waiting for the weather to clear is just killin our minds. So we headed off to see Bollinger Mills which was a huge corn mill. The site is on the National Registry of Historic places. It is winter and their tours are upon demand costing a person $5 a piece. We are cheap skates and so we just took pics and will wait until Summer when the building is open for business all the time.

One of four covered bridges left in the state

We then meandered our way south headed for Lake Wappapello. On the route we came across an old cemetery that was overgrown and not kept for many years and as I love to transcribe cemeteries I had to stop just in case nobody had taken these pics yet. Glad I did because nobody had taken pics yet.

By this time we started to get hungry so we hunted out a place to eat in Greenville, Mo called the "Bear's Den Game Room & Grill". Jamie & Tammy Garris are great people with great food. Mtn Man had a double cheeseburger that was hand made , hand pressed, burgers so he had a difficult time getting his lips around this burger. But he said it was real tasty! If you get down that way try this place it will be worth the stop.

Down the scenic roads we went thru the flat country and rolling hills to get to the Lake. We did see a huge flock of birds heading north which we took as a sign of spring coming. We can hope can't we?
So impressed with this camera these birds were probably 3 miles out from us.....
What a treat this was.....finally arriving at our destination. I did not realize how large this lake was so we only saw a small portion of which was the tail end of it to the south. We stopped at another cemetery here to find a family of three buried in this cyclone fenced off area and of course, I had to take pictures.

17 more miles to see the lake and it was worth the wait.....just beautiful and so was the day. Enjoy the pics.

We headed home as it was getting dark after stopping off at the grocery store for a few things.

Yesterday we had to get Mtn Man in for a morning appt with the surgeon who informed us that he will have to cut his knee open and do some ligament grafting taken from himself no cadaver. Then the news that was hard for him to hear was the recovery time of about 3-5 mos. This should be fun!!!!
We had lunch with our friends David & Renee then went down to help take care of horses and have some family time after making a stop off to see Grandma at the nursing home.
Oh, and we did get the gate set turned out real nice...silly me didn't take a pic....wasn't thinkin the cold is taking it out me.

Tomorrow we look for freezing rain to hit here so today we are out cutting wood again for the next round. Usually we have 10 cord cut and ready for use but as we didn't get to start until mid Nov on that we are playing catch up all the time. Next year will be better in this regard and hopefully in a house more energy efficient.

I have finally finished all my seed, plant, and tree ordering. So when they start arriving it will be a busy time, can't wait. I am trying a new seed company this year who offer heirloom type seed Baker Creek Seed Heirloom Seed. I am excited to see how the seeds grow.

Ok gotta go ...the guys are about ready for me to start hauling wood. Have a great day!

  2. M.E.,

Bollinger Mills is gorgeous, I love the old stone, and the cover bridge.
Walking through places like this just is so exciting. It makes you want to take a walk back in time when things were in full operation.

Wow, Lake Wappapello is beautiful, and big. I would have to stop and do some fishing, that is of course after getting the proper paperwork to do so.

Thank you for sharing your field trip away from home, I will add these places to my list of places to check out.

I'm sorry to hear all that your husband will have to go through for repairing his knee. Tell him to keep his chin up, this too shall pass.
