Although the stories are that the Pilgrims came up with this day(at least that is what I was taught), the truth is that a courageous, outstanding woman of the 1800's thought it up all by herself probably with God's nudging! When this holiday was put into affect we as a nation were in the middle of the Civil War and were in need of such a holiday.  Thank you Sarah and President Lincoln. Sarah Josepha (Buell) Hale may be the individual most responsible for making Thanksgiving a national holiday in the United States; it had previously been celebrated only in New England. Each state scheduled its own holiday, some as early as October and others as late as January; it was largely unknown in the American South. Her advocacy for the national holiday began in 1846 and lasted 17 years before it was successful. In support of the proposed national holiday, Hale wrote letters to five Presidents of the United States : Zachary Taylor , Millard Filmore , Franklin Pierce , James Buch...

Turkey Time or Thanksgiving Time is time set out for family in our house. Next week will fly by quickly. I want to wish my mother in law a Happy Birthday! Her  birthday lands the day after Turkey Day. My son's birthday is the day before Turkey Day this year. He would have been 24 yrs old. Crazy how time fly's!   I will have a couple posts put together this week but for the most part will be really busy. We have three events starting Sunday 23rd to attend. We are blessed to have so many that want to share their holiday with us. All family!  Ok everybody have a great week and weekend...... Not really sure if all farmers/ranchers hunt but we do. We enjoy hunting. The walks in the woods is refreshing even though we do this in the off season anyhow, we still enjoy the woods.  We headed out this morning not early by any means but it was a good time to go. The temp read 22-23* and we had a light breeze. Got to my spot and planted my hiney on a log. I was in a place were I could view all the way around me. Not to much brush just enough to not be seen that well by deer.   Mtn Man walked on to make a circle of sorts to maybe stir up the deer a bit. While I was sitting there in my spot I started talking with "The Man Upstairs". Let me fill ya in a bit, which will take us off track for a minute but I will get back to the story. I have lately been questioning my faith in God, you could say. Wondering if maybe believing in a being that I can't see is really the right way of doing things. We have been so busy lately!! With the new job we took on and the cold weather we have just been busy (occupied, engaged, involved, having a great deal to do). FIL was telling stories again and this one I couldn't resist sharing with you. Close friends to them came over to visit. J & T are great people. J & T have one kid, a daughter K.  J has been talking about getting a beagle for hunting. Neighbor to InLaws just happened to have a few up for grabs. They are papered, ready to go for the taking. So FIL & J meet up with the neighbor to take a look. One of the pups was spoken for already just didn't matter which one out of three. So they looked them over and after a lot of discussion J decided the dog in the North pen and the South pen were they dogs he would take. Now the thought heading over there was he would only get one dog but he decided he liked them both. Both are females. They head back up to the house to talk with the neighbor and explained which ones he liked. The question was asked what did the neighbor name the dogs? He replied "T and K". Oh, my really, T and K. FIL told J that his wife isn't ...

No matter what time or how you served, the point is that you did for your country. To me it takes a brave, courageous individual to make that step. It takes a belief in our country to protect her shores and her people. And in this time of history with the type of leader we have, Muslim, it takes a determination and conviction for our country that I think we have never seen before, to SERVE.  I believe God is with you ALL. Picked up a project I had put away for a bit. Making a horse bridle band that can be removed. Tedious work...but love to see the end product. I create as I go...no plan usually it just appears...... Elections were yesterday as you may know. Looks like the republican party made a sweep across the board. I am not as naive as one thinks but I do hope they stick by their word and clean house a bit.  I found a scripture that is applicable to the elections: Romans 13:1-5 Amplified Bible (AMP) 13  Let every person be loyally subject to the governing (civil) authorities. I am sorry I didn't write yesterday but I was a little busy. We have started a new job yesterday that requires us our full attention. We are starting a new business involving chainsaw work, brush hogging, fence building and general property management. We are excited to finally be at this point.  As most of you know, Mtn Man has been down for the last year from a full knee reconstruction. He has been told he can return to work. It was suggested that he look for another line of work which requires some re-training. This is like telling a work horse that he can't pull a plow anymore! Not willing to quit! We prayed heavily for God to show us the way. Trying to listen to His direction, hoping we are not failing. Having faith that He will show us our new path and direction He wants us to go. Saturday after we came home from an estate auction (kin to our neighbors) we went straight to the garden only picking a few peppers that were left. The frost has hit here as I have said before and got the peppers this time. The root vegetables(carrots, beets, turnips) were still in the ground but not anymore. The garden is officially done for the year. Can you believe 6 mos of a garden? 5 1/2 gallons of carrots from a 25 foot row 2.5 gallons of beets and about 4 gallons of turnips Today I will can all the bounty while listening to God's word coming out of the radio. Sometimes I believe God understands we gotta preserve our bounty or feed it to the critters even on his prescribed day. I love my Shickies! I have a great bunch of hens this time around. They come to my voice and some even let me pick them up to pet them. I love my Chickens! Where their pen is located is no electricity remotely close. We are already maxed out on cords coming out of our house for things like freezers, etc. so no way to have a very long cord out to the chickens. So we have to come up with alternative ways to keep them warm. Usually I would install a heat lamp but as I said before not available to us at this time. The hen house has a lot of wire on it which means the weather tends to get in whenever its little hearts desire. Soaking  their hen beds and the pine pellets very quickly. We came up with a great solution which I hope helps them to stay warm and still have a bit of light as well as ventilation. It isn't pretty but who cares.....at least I can say we tried our very best to get them warmed up. We took an ol' blanket (warn out comforter that went from being a dog blan...
