Monday

I usually do a Weekend Update but today does not seem appropiate in light of the events that happened overnight and through today for others east of us. We are fortunate just lots of water here. Down pours of rain!  For others unfortunately they lost their lives in one of the deadliest tornado outbreaks of the year and it just started! Vilonia/Mayflower, Ar(EF5 unconfirmed) is 250 miles South and West of us here in Marquand, Mo and Quapaw, Ok & Baxter Springs, Ks(EF2) is 330 miles west of  us. Unconfirmed reports are saying that 16 have perished in these storms. The storms are moving east with threats of even more tornadoes, one set down in Bossier, LA (EF2) just this morning. My prayers go out to those affected by these storms whether it is tornadoes or flooding etc.......  Copyright © 2014 M.E. Masterson All Photographs Copyright © 2014 M.E. Masterson

Sunday Passage

“A prudent person foresees the danger ahead and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.” -Proverbs 27:12 “6:6 Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise! 6:7 Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work, 6:8 they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter. 6:9 But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep? When will you wake up? 6:10 A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—6:11 then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.” - Proverbs 6:6 –11 (NLT) Source Copyright © 2014 M.E. Berry Cobbler

Image
Reading blogs the other day ran across a recipe that I had to try: Berry Cobbler by the Mennonite Girls here is my version and I am proud to say "YUM" here is a copy of her recipe Ingredients 4 cups berries ( a mix of blueberries, blackberries, raspberries) (I thawed a bunch from the freezer) 6 Tbsp sugar 2 Tbsp cornstarch 1 Tbsp lemon juice 1 1/2 cups large biscuit mix 1/3 cup sugar 1/2 cup milk ( a little more if preferred for easy spreading) coarse sugar for sprinkling (optional) Method: Combine frozen or fresh berries with sugar, cornstarch and lemon juice in a medium pot and cook, stirring as needed, until boiling and liquid is clear. This takes about 5 -10 minutes. Pour into small Pyrex, stone or glass bake-ware to serve about six.  Combine biscuit mix, sugar and milk and stir until combined.  Scoop onto fruit by large spoonfuls. Sprinkle with coarse sugar. Bake at 400 F for about 25 minutes, until golden and bubbly. Let c...

Farm Updates

Image
We are expecting thunderstorms this afternoon into this evening, maybe or maybe not. They say there is a possibility for severe weather but not sure......then Sunday calling for storms once again. We are ready for whatever comes our way! On to the Farm updates:   The Chicken House is in place now ready for the fence. Mtn Man and FIL placed it yesterday with dry  concrete waiting for ground moisture or the rain to do the rest of the job. But as you can see they placed boards in place so it won't move, here's hoping! The purple marks on the grass are where I want posts for their(the chickens) "great yard" or their version of a "great room"! Mtn Man hung my laundry line up on Monday and I have to say it works like a champ! The garden is growing......potatoes and onions are up (companion planted one row), the plants I planted, all but 2 made it so far and some of the beets, broccoli, Brussels sprouts. Hoping the hail doesn't...

Feeling Poetic-Our House

Image
Stickin' doors and settlin' floors. Termites that chew thru the wood, the toilet you would love to flush if only you could. The roof is thin and let's rain in. Foundation has a crack handyman's dream if you have the knack. They said it was old but I think that statement was bold. I've seen younger dinosaur bones, their ain't no keepin' up with these Jones'. No wild sex for the bedroom it wrecks. The floor won't take the beatin', the walls sway from the mistreatin'. The hammer is callin' cuz the front porch is fallin'. It may be contrary at times but it is only temporary, Despite the mess we are blessed!  Poem Courtesy of Mtn Man  Copyright © 2014 M.E. Masterson All Photographs Copyright © 2014 M.E. Masterson

Sunday Passage

The Resurrection of Christ 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: 6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. 7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. 8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I ...
