Sunday Passage

Image
After traveling around catching up on blogs I enjoy reading this chapter in Proverbs seemed appropriate. Proverbs Chapter 3  1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: 2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. 3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: 4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. 5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. 9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. 11 My son, d...

Tribute to SciFi Chick

Friends for those of you who don't know SciFi Chic has gone to the other side. I was totally in the dark on this and needed clarification which I received via Sandy from oklahomatransient.blogspot.com  .  SciFi's blog  http://baconandeggs-scifichick.blogspot.com/   , which so many of you who stop at my porch come from, is full of useful information for those who are interested in storing food or cooking/baking it. It makes for a great read. Her last post was Aug 10th and even tho she was "In the weeds" she still found time to reply on the 12th. This is us wishing her family best wishes. She, like my children, are now just waiting for us to finish our journeys as they did theirs. Prayers for you all, Mars and Family, straight to the top! New Old Permanent Guest

Image
Please meet "Annie". She is the family pet belonging to FIL & MIL. But she has decided after spending a week with us that she wants to live here. Plus IL's have acquired a new puppy and Annie is tired of playing with the puppy. Annie is about 12 yrs old. Here she has "Peanut" as a companion to run in the woods and check the goats and chickens. So much to do all the time! Headed to move the goats, the girls usually go with. This happens about 4-5 x's a day These two were racing me back like they do everyday Wiggly Happy Dog! Annie Cooling Off  She probably will go for visits to her other home but I think she is settling in here wonderfully! Food Storage For Winter

Image
Our pork, beef, chicken & tuna arrived today. As soon as we got home we set the table up right there outside and processed it. We had all the meat but 6 butts in the freezer in an hour and half.  What a deal!  The canned stuff went on the shelves and viola' we are ready for winter. I have been hearing, not sure if it's true or not, that storing up food has become or is becoming illegal in some states. As long as there has been Americans in this United States we have been storing food in our pantries/root cellars or what have ya. I personally, have been helping with and storing food since I was in my tweens. Many a time did I have raw hands from hot food for jars and many a time we ate straight out of these same jars time and time again. I tend to believe that those who are either jealous or ignorant or envious or just plain ol meanies have no clue what they are missing. Storing food is also the way God has directed us to do to make sure we eat healthy and do fo...

Elbow Deep in Peaches

Image
MIL found a deal on peaches a bushel for $20. Of course, I jumped on the deal! We tackled the peaches and put up 21 qts for the pantry.... After we finished these up we headed over to a neighbors for some canning jars that were in storage. They need a bit of cleaning up and will be used for sure..... he also gave us a rototiller. Beans are coming along some are blooming, the carrots are coming up nicely. The beets are about 4" high and the kohlrabi is up 3 ". Planting turnips tomorrow, hopefully!   Contact by email (marye.masterson@gmail.com) with comments or subscribe to receive by email and reply directly to it........ Copyright © 2014 M.E. HOT HUMID Dirt Work

Image
We are under a heat advisory in our area. At the present time the temp is about 98 although the weather people say 91, with a heat index of 97, humidity of 49%. Another words, You sweat while standing still ! ******************************************************************************* We installed the insulation on the outside of the root cellar attaching with a spray on adhesive. It worked pretty good. Then put in the drain tile around the container spreading straw on top of that. The tractor pushed the dirt up against the container. We looked inside to see if it was starting to cave and it was holding wonderfully. And the temp was holding great too!  Mtn Man called it quits today due to heat and therapy. This is his last week one more session to do then see the doc on Monday! Will get more peaches tomorrow. Have tomatoes on the front porch that are ripening probably due to can. Due to mow some yards too. JG & Cemetery will get done thi...

Painting The Root Cellar

Image
This qualifies as a dirty job! But it is done....even the top. No we didn't do the doors not sure why but the boss said not to paint them. He painted the one spot on the door to see what this stuff looked like otherwise they will remain green. Next will come the insulation and plastic then we can bury it.. Wahoo! Ps the weather has stopped us today...thunder and lightening (made my hairs stand up) Can you see the sweat and red face? It was in the 90's and 100% humidity!!!  I was covered in that asphalt smelling stuff....threw my clothes away..took gasoline to get it off our skin, dawn soap to get the gasoline off and a warm shower with soap to wash the sweat off! Now I am off to make " White Chili "...look for the recipe to appear soon with pics of course in the New REcipe Tab!! Hope your day is going great!! What she up to today?

Image
If you must know I am canning up tomatoes..... yes more canning. We sat down and roughly figured out that if we used 3 qts a day for 300 days we would need 900 qts!!! If we used 3 qts a day for 180 days or 6 mos. we would need 540 qts. I have ways to go yet...... as it stands we have enough for 40 days. Or if we used 1 qt a day for 120 days. Will keep on canning. Mtn Man has added more gravel/dirt to his shop pad and is now watering it to pack it down.. One week left until the dr appt.. praying for a release..... Redneck Remodel

Image
Friday we had an appt with our local grocer. We went to ask for a good price on bulk meat and case goods. We would like to keep our buying with the little guy if at all possible. We ordered bacon 30#, pork steaks #80, whole chickens #80 , ribs #?? (he said about 8 racks to a case or so), burger 60# and we can make our own sausage with the scraps from the butt roast that we make the steaks with. It will be a lot of work but well worth it as the prices are rising every week. They have risen by 90cents on some things and others as little as 30 cents which makes like the hamburger go from $3 to around $4 the pork steaks went from $2.69 to $2.99 a lb. And bacon went from $3.99 to $5.99 lb. So with our discounts the prices were considerable lower. I brought home a case of bacon and wrapped it in pound packages for the freezer. It is nice to get our freezer stocked again. ****************************************************************************** Today, Saturday, Auntie M an...
