This for me personally is a challenge in this part of the country. Between the snakes, bugs and the poison vines I really have a hard time mostly mentally (not because of work) but sometimes physically! We worked on the spot across the creek that was obstructing our view of the goat pen.   It looks much better... BUT ......    I ended up with a good dose of poison oak, ivy something! I can only guess that a vine swiped me across the face when we were clearing....doggonit! I woke up the first morning and I looked like somebody punched me in the face...then comes the ooze! This is the beginning of a long season...I have attracted the poison vines all my life! If they are about well I end up with it....I have had it so bad in the past that I ended in the emergency room from oozing from the Inside Out (Throat, Nether regions, lungs etc) !  It is getting better but will take time.....I have used vinegar & baking soda (burned like hale), Tecnu s...

Yesterday I was thinking and for me sometimes it means having a chat with the man upstairs. I was walking to the chicken pen and asked out loud wonder what scripture I should share in tomorrow post. Some like it Some hate it!  I personally don't mind laundry I just don't like to fold it... I also am allergic to most detergents so I buy the free of everything kind. This includes the dryer sheets too! I learned a trick years ago from my bio mom that I still do to this day. I add vinegar to the wash. Vinegar has all kinds of great properties that help enhance the wash. Such as red clay comes out of clothes, takes awful smells out of the clothes and overall makes them more brilliant (correction on verbiage so I have been told--- Vibrant)  I think. When I use vinegar I just add about 1/4 -1/2 cup of it to each load whether I use bleach or not. Gets them clean!!  I am settling into the new schedule and so is everybody else. Today I want to talk about pre planting. I have come to realize that there are those who have no idea that you can or should do certain things with certain items before planting. For instance, when planting potatoes you really should prep your seed potatoes before planting. What I mean is this...Seed potatoes have eyes on them and most times they are already putting on sprouts from those eyes. Take a knife and cut the potatoes in to pieces leaving at least one eye in that piece. Doesn't matter the shape or the size really. I prefer leaving some meat on with the eye so that my potatoes have a little something to get them started. Like this.... Place them on newspaper or in my case paper plates and in a warm spot not necessarily a sunny spot just warm(60*). After a couple of days I will turn them up so the meat can harden off (they may turn a dark gray and they look like a bad scab on them-DO NOT CUT THIS OFF!!)...

 A few days ago we woke to a heavy fog in the valley. About a day later these beauties showed up again and I was ready for them! Tomorrow I will finish planting with what I have. I need to get beet seeds and sweet potato slips . I am going to try to grow my own slips from last years sweets.Garden wont be as full as last year. Planning on having a fall garden for canning. UPDATE: Still frosty here this morning so will limit what I plant until after the first of May. Love hearing from ya!!!! I finally got the bug to plant! I did get three rows planted of beans and onions. Wahoo! So it starts. Last weekend Mtn Man tilled the garden up after the garden sat fallow all winter. The dirt is beautiful! We made comment that only a farmer would comment on how their dirt looked! LOL! I wasn't the only one making comments about the dirt....kind of funny if ya think bout it! Today FIL brought his little tiller over to till a section for me so I could plant a few seeds. Worked up so nice! Very happy to have started at least. Red Candy Onions Tomorrow we have some storms poppin by so will wait to plant my tomato and pepper plants I picked up this morning at the market. I also picked up some seed potatoes, red candy onions and red onion sets at the farm store today. Oh I can't forget I picked up more contender bean seeds. These all will have to wait until these storms pass on through. Don't want to take the chance they get destroyed by hail. M...

I don't really have a lot to tell ya. Garden has been plowed not planted yet. Baby goats  are growing fast. Will be debudding their horns shortly. Baby chicks, well, they are growing up quickly. Mtn Man has started his new job this week. Adjustments in our schedule is what we are doing presently. Sorry I haven't shown up here in a few days but adjustments take time.   Storms came in Thursday with fair warning. We headed for the storm shelter which is cozy for two people and three dogs but it does it job! The front door of the container is a bugger to try to shut from the inside especially when you have high winds working against ya. So Friday Mtn Man went to work fixin this issue so we will be safer in our shelter.  First he had to remove the door handles which are long rails you twist to shut. For the last year we have had a rope attached so we can pull it shut and tie it to the inside hooks. After Thursday nights high winds, hail and torrential rain he decided we needed a better system. Mtn Man went to welding on new handles which required cutting a hole in the box to put the handle in. Then put another handle on to make things easier to shut from the outside and two brackets for locking from the outside and one on the inside. The end result is fabulous! May not look pretty but it is functional! ******************...

As we were evaluating what we were going to do today I happened to notice the asparagus in the garden. Not sure how I missed it until today oh I know the storms! So excited, despite our best efforts we still have food growing in our garden! LOL! Not sure how they made it through the marble size hail but thank you Lord! We will enjoy this little batch with a bit of goaty goat and brown rice!   *************************************************************************** Today was so beautiful that I decided to mow...first one for the year! It always smells so good. The fresh green cut grass and wild onions.  ************************************************************************* Tomorrow the garden gets plowed! Wahoo!! North of us here were some strange happenings. It is tornado season here in this part of the world. Comes with it a slew of severe storms. Well today was a dousy!!
