Stewards Of Our Land

I know this is a little off the subject but bear with me. Life can go by in a blur when you lose someone in death. And for years it did not occur to me that I had buried (ashes in the ocean) my kids on April Fool's Day. When I put two and two together I thought the Devil sure played a nasty joke on that day. And I find it interesting that it is during a religious holy week for some, don't you?
Here is to another year of livin'!

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:
-1 Peter 4:10
When you own land God expects you to take care of what He has provided for you to have. Yes, you pay for it but He is the one who has made it available for you plus the means to pay for it. We do not take this for granted. We were grateful and are grateful to be blessed with such a task.
In planning this farm which is in constant change. We get excited with a thought running through our heads then mull it around, pray about it and then get practical or you could say God gets real with ya. He explains bout the pros and cons of the idea you have.
At first we wanted to put the guest cabin that we are building up behind the shop.
We prayed and thought on this...discussed it several times. What you can't smell through the picture is fertilizer (which could potentially make us sick from breathing that in all the time). It is in the ground right where we want to build. Plus it is really a damp place to have the cabin...lots of water in that area. So then Mtn Man suggested to build it over by the chicken pen where he stores his implements for the tractor.
But it makes more sense to make this area for the implement shed plus hay/wood shed.
So then we got to talking about power, water and sewer. Both of these places would be to far away for power if we so desire to do this. Solar would work for both...ok but septic, we could make it happen with the one but the other well it is above our water source not a good idea. And water would have to go a long way for the one while the other would be easy enough.
So we walked around a bit more and found that another place made way more sense to the both of us.
Up behind the present house and next to the tornado shelter. This is on top of a hill close to the sewer line, water line and power line. We intend on having solar eventually. This made sense! What ya don't know is there used to be an ol' homestead up by that ol' oak tree in the picture (right). Pretty cool when ya finally figure it out.
Then we talked about my studio (writing, sewing, beading etc.). We were going to build it down at the bottom of this hill under the walnut trees viewing the garden.
Again our thinking caps went on and thought well when the walnuts fall eventually we will have to replace the roof from the possible damage/leakage it may cause. Plus it is a wet area.
Looking around again we do believe we have found the right spot on the other side of the tornado shelter above the ol' hand dug well under the oak trees. When the acorns (akurns as some say) fall won't be so bad. Insulate a bit more to take care of the sound.
We went on to talk about the outdoor kitchen for canning and company. Mtn Man wanted to put it where the fire pit is presently and I well, the one doing the canning want to have it connect to the present deck out back. But that would mean taking out the red bud tree, old tree probably needs to come down anyhow. This spot makes more sense to me so it will probably go right there. Have three doors and lots of screen all the way around to keep the bugs out.
We walked over to the shop. Mtn Man said he was thinking of moving the gray container to a spot between the round corral and shop. Building horse barn/lean to off of it.
Then we meandered around to our final destination into the (Keller) pines up behind the coral. In the future we plan on having a couple guest cabins built up there.
One never knows we may stay in our little place on the hill and not build our house on the present site! LOL!
The other plan is building a buck shed and pen further up in the big pasture. I plan on buying another buck for the girls born here and keep Little Man for my foreign girls (soon to be more given to us).
Our first project is finish the shop, fencing the goat pasture and the sawmill pasture.
Having a farm is wonderful and hard all at the same time. And if you always keep in the forefront of your endeavors you will be blessed! Putting Him first in All things.... " In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."- Prov 3:6
