Update On The Ceiling

Image
We finshed this step of the ceiling.... As you can see the other part has aged a bit. With a little sanding the red color will come back so we can add a finish to it so it won't fade again. Love it! ******************************************************************************* Couple days ago we had a blizzard hit us that cut our power for 16hrs! It reminded us to get our little things back up to par again. We have gotten a little lax on the little things. Oil lamps came out and our battery operated lights too. Dominoes were found and we ended our day early. It was a very heavy snow..so we ended up with 4". It was 76* the day before...crazy weather! Love hearing from ya!!!! Sawdust In The Face

Image
First off, I want to THANK YOU..Yes YOU! Somehow, my post about Mexican Cornbread Casserole has caused my little 'ol blog to go NUTS with pageviews. Went from 100-150 to 500-550 a day! Cray Cray! Yesterday was spent at our little sawmill once again..trying to finish up what we needed for our ceiling....the day was WINDY! Sawdust in the face kind of day all day. I ended up rinsing my eye out after getting sawdust in it. Wasn't too sure that I was going to get it clear. Thank goodness I was able too, dangit if it didn't hurt! Mountain Man had his fill of it by the time 5 o'clock rolled around! We brought the boards back to the house. Laid them out on the deck to allow them to finish drying from milling. Cedar is so beautiful! 12 ft to the side...8 ft stacked three high in back,2 high in front Running anything on a farm is never "laudy dah"! Especially running equipment. When running this mill it is a constant maintenance as you go kind of thing which mak...

Rainbow Roses

Image
I have a lot of inquires about my colorful roses. They are fascinating as well as beautiful! I had to look up these beauties. I wanted to grow them but found out that the stems are dipped in different colors so as they grow they will flower with all these colors! Pretty cool no matter how they are created! 2nd Floor Covering

Image
We are insuring that our floor is solid! And this is proving to be an insulation of sorts. Not your typical pink stuff but it is working for sure. Mountain man finished the crawl hole cover that in our floor...new and old...it turned out nice! Oh and the plastic we added as a vapor barrier is working beautifully! One can see the moisture under the plastic and it is dry on top...makes a person happy happy! Next step our cherry wood pergo flooring....so pretty! Love hearing from ya!!!! Ceiling Up Our Abode

Image
The other day we ran to town to pick up MORE supplies for our room. We purchased the board we needed for finishing the floor(another post) and the ceiling. We decided to make our cabin into a log look. In order to do that, we have to have a base to nail the logs and rough cut boards too which will be supplied by our fallen trees on our property. The T-Braces or Third Hands you see in the pictures, are being used to hold these boards in place just until Mountain Man got them nailed up. Board by board these handy tools were put into place to help with the process.... Until the job was complete! Now we are ready for the next step..... Tomorrow our post will be about the floor... Farm Updates

Image
Shorty dog is having a time of it. He is on his second week of meds for some tooth issues that showed up. He went for his first dental at 10 yrs old. His breed is unkind when it comes to teeth! For years we have dealt with it but this year it was unavoidable! Infection set in where three teeth had come out...poor guy! He is doing tons better but will have to go another week longer with antibiotics to make a total of three weeks of meds! This last week is to make sure that the infection isnt going into the bone...with tooth issues this can happen easily! Praying that my little man doesn't have this going on!!!  The horses are doing great! They are happy to be back home. Had a horse friend of ours find a horse blanket for Lyfa. It wasn't exactly our taste but beggers can't be choosers!! What is important is that she isn't using all her energies to stay warm. They get Mary's slop twice a day...high in fat & protein including lots of fiber! The hay we recent...

Roping The Fence

Image
I woke the other morning going about my business. Decided to head to the post office to pick up my mail that hadn't been collected for a few days. Not abnormal for us! As I turned into our drive I noticed a gaping hole in the fence. I panicked!! My horses are in this pasture...so I raced to the top of the hill to see if they were still in there. Whew, yes they were. I backed up which got their attention and they trotted down to see what I was up to! I went into hurry mode...I don't carry wire in the car normally (I do now), so I had to imper vise! I found two short straps and a piece of rope... at first I tried the strap ...ya not going to work...so I went with the rope. I curled the wire back on itself wrapping it tight to make a loop. I repeated this on the other end of the wire. I tied one end on the first loop then strung it through the second loop and repeated this all the way down until I ran out of rope. All the while I am rackin my brain trying to figure out why so...
