The Simple Life
I have been thinking about writing about the Simple Life! I find it interesting that people in the city think living out in the country is Simple (easily understood or done; presenting no difficulty). They probably are right.
It is simple in the fact that we don't have to deal with "Nascar drivers"
or grouchy people because they hate the idea that they have to report to a job they hate daily.
Or that they have to deal with screaming babies through a bedroom wall, blaring music, fighting parents, ambulance/police car noise, highway noise from cars and trucks rushing by, or gun shots ringing in the night.
Life in a city is complicated on most levels. It is not simple!
Country life can be complicated if you choose it to be. Depending on the place of dwelling whether it's a working farm, retired farm, country house, vacation spot or camping spot. They all can be complicated and trying if you choose it be. Most farmers you ask if they would have it any other way and their response for many is ...they would do it all again!
Living this "Simple" life is a reward that most don't get or understand who haven't lived it. We know where our food comes from, is prepared and by whom. We enjoy raising our own animals for the food we prepare. We enjoy the vegetables that we put on our tables cultivated by our own hands. We choose this simple life because out there it is complicated. We enjoy the peace it can offer. We enjoy the solitude it can offer. Some places come with more responsibility than others but if we choose they all come with the same result. It is Simple!
The best part for us is that in this simple life we chose, we can hear God. When you live in the city sometimes it is really difficult to hear God even if he is yelling to get your attention. We live in such a "me, me, me" world that most don't hear him nor take the time to listen.
I guess what I am trying to say is, yes, we live a simple life and we love our simple life.
Oh, don't get me wrong...we have bills to pay like everybody else. Sometimes we have to make large sacrifices to pay those bills. But we still get to enjoy our peaceful, fulfilled, God filled, Simple Life!

I love your post. You are very blessed to have the peace and quiet of the country.
ReplyDeleteI remember the quiet of a summer evening and listening to the loons call across a nearby lake and being able to actually see the stars. Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't have it any other way. Even when we're gardening at 100* with a 109* heat index. Life out here is great.
