Handful Of Days
I guess I should start with and maybe I have mentioned this already but our work situation has changed once again. The job up north was revamped by the owner of the property. He decided to have the bigger machinery come in and finish what they started. He brought in another "crew" to finish the clean up which put us out of work. Will not put all our eggs in one basket ever again, lesson learned. Business is Business. We will still pursue our business of this nature just weight it out a bit more carefully. We are truly taking everything in stride! God has his plans and we are waiting or at least trying to wait on Him. We have put our feet out there on numerous different avenues and are just waiting to see which pops out at us. Today Mtn Man is having an interview with the USPS. It is a part time position right here in our hometown.. We shall see......
This last week/weekend, can't recall which, we went over and messed with the horses for a bit.
( Forgot my Camera that Day) They loved it!! Brushed down Curly and Blue after they had their feet trimmed. Mtn Man did beautifully! Didn't hear any complaining, so I took that as an awesome sign. He has decided to get his farrier business up and running. Ordered our business cards which should be on there way. And we have our first paying customer on Saturday. Yeah!
I am still working on my beading project....it truly is time consuming. I really enjoy working on projects such as this and hope maybe it will be one that somebody will buy and appreciate.
On all of these and more we pray that God will continue to bless us as He has thus far.

Farm Updates:
We went to a few cattle auctions in the area. Mtn Man and I were in sticker shock! We hit three auction barns and found the prices to be around the same across the board. Bottle Calves we going for about $2.00 lb and #500 calves were $3.00 lb. The best buys were pairs, mama and calf. On average about $2000 for the pair. The cattle varied though in quality from barn to barn. We hope come spring we will be able to purchase our cattle. Might have to start out with some ol pregnant girls but it will still be cattle!
On to the chickens....FIL built them beautiful nesting boxes! Since the temps have dropped into the teens we had to figure out a way to get them some heat or we would have had chicken pops! Mtn Man went to town and purchased a hundred foot cord which we connected to the other cords stretched out there. It seems to be keeping their hut toasty well warmer anyhow. I put plastic up on the pneumonia vents on the sides because the one night before all the additions they came out with frost laying on the tops of their feathers. Yikes! I have the heat light(White not Red) pointed straight down on top of their water to help keep it open if at all possible. Most the time it is working but it is really getting cold at night (last night it was in the 11-13 degree range) so it is a bit difficult at times to keep it from freezing. They have also gotten used to watering once a day as well. We noticed this when the tiny creek was running through their pen. They headed for water first thing in the morning then spend the rest of the pecking around their yard. I just love my chickens!
I did want to express my condolences to a friend of ours who recently lost all her chickens to a fire. They loved their chickens too! Cause of fire the surmise was from a heat lamp catching the straw on fire. Can't be to cautious!
The goats, Snickers and Little Man, are fat and fuzzy fuzzy! They are not suffering one little bit! I do have to carry out water to them in a 5 gallon bucket. The big trough has froze over rock solid! A bit of extra exercise won't hurt me none!
Peanut The Nut is in her heat cycle...not sure why now but it is what it is! Shorty is fuzzy wuzzy (hair gets ridiculously long) and Annie Girl, well, she is doing great!

Ok well I guess that is all for now.....Oh, be sure to stop over at Good Ol American Cookin will be adding more yummy recipes.
