Update to the Update on Peanut

Image
Thank you EVERYBODY! So many of you emailed or commented to help ease the worry! It was wonderful! Since losing my kids, I have bonded with this little girl and would hate to lose her! Thanks from the bottom of my heart!!  Thank you Fredericktown Animal Hospital Peanut The Nut is almost back to her normal self! I say almost because her tongue is still a bit sore but so so much better!!! She is licking again, Drank water today for the first time and is over all feeling lots better. The bruising is shrinking by leaps and bounds. Instead of half of the tongue we are now down to a nickel size spot. I called her doc today to see if maybe I could take her off the prednisone (sp?) as she was not swelling anymore. So tomorrow we will be steroid free. Still gonna keep her on the pen g until I feel she is out of danger of infection. If you look close you can see right below the sore on her tongue, the snake bite on her lip...photo from last night looks much different today (sorry n...

UPDATED @ 7:20 pm Emergency Vet Trip

Image
Peanut ended up in Emergency Hospital this morning. She got bit by a young Copperhead snake .  I will start at the beginning. Mtn Man was out front this morning enjoying his coffee while scoping out the land from the front porch at his forward command center. Peanut joined him outside. She commenced to exploring which started right under the front porch. She started barking "raising cane" at something under the porch. Mtn Man got up to access the situation but could not see what she was barking at. Peanut was trying to show him where the critter was but it was hidden behind some old concrete and leaves. I stepped outside to see what all the commotion was about and I was told that she had something under the front porch. So I encouraged her to show me where it was.... this is where the proverbial crap hit the sky! She came out of there shaking her head like crazy. Dangit!! She got bit by something...... Mtn Man continued to find the little sucker with all hopes that ...

Running The Drive

We still have snow. In fact, it has been snow flurries all day. Nothin' stickin' around but here nonetheless. It was cold last night and first thing I hear this morning is that dang goat, Snickers. Maw Maw come give me grain Maw Maw. I had coffee first maybe two cups then went out to do my chores. I think she may go down the road after she has her babies and they are weined. I just about can't stand that cryin' in our little Serenity Valley. If momma (me) is upset the whole valley is upset! I had to laugh at myself cuz it reminded me of a post I read the other day on Krazo Acres about her goats screamin too! I laughed and laughed at that post.... http://krazoacres.blogspot.com/2015/02/gha-goat-haters-anonymous.html Can you see it? I can cuz it happens here regular like! LOL! Even caught Mtn Man yellin back at her to shut up. Gets under ones skin and makes you cringe like nails on a chalkboard! I can't fix it and can't ignore it....makes my ears hurt! Anyh...

Snow Days Of February

Image
Still boggles my brain that we are in the year 2015. I know, right? Crazy.  Yesterday   Today Today we are concentrating on getting the critters a bit more set up to withstand the cold we are experiencing and the 9" of snow we received.  We were into the single digits last night...neighbor mentioned 3*. We are not sure how low but it is suppose to be colder tonite. Like in the (-) category! I do hope my critters stay warm enough. The Chickens are screaming about the weather...taking turns screaming at the door about not able to go out by their choice. A few have ventured out but return to the indoors quickly. A few of the girls have tried flying out in it only to get stuck and be rescued by their human, ME! Have to check on them regularly to make sure they are not chicycles! I have a warming light inside to keep them warm, so far it is working. Have to bring their water in to defrost. Can't seem to keep it warm enough. I have the water directly under the ligh...

Handful Of Days

I guess I should start with and maybe I have mentioned this already but our work situation has changed once again. The job up north was revamped by the owner of the property. He decided to have the bigger machinery come in and finish what they started. He brought in another "crew" to finish the clean up which put us out of work. Will not put all our eggs in one basket ever again, lesson learned. Business is Business. We will still pursue our business of this nature just weight it out a bit more carefully. We are truly taking everything in stride! God has his plans and we are waiting or at least trying to wait on Him. We have put our feet out there on numerous different avenues and are just waiting to see which pops out at us. Today Mtn Man is having an interview with the USPS. It is a part time position right here in our hometown.. We shall see...... This last week/weekend, can't recall which, we went over and messed with the horses for a bit. ( Forgot my Camera that...

Please meet "Annie". She is the family pet belonging to FIL & MIL. But she has decided after spending a week with us that she wants to live here. Plus IL's have acquired a new puppy and Annie is tired of playing with the puppy. Annie is about 12 yrs old. Here she has "Peanut" as a companion to run in the woods and check the goats and chickens. So much to do all the time! Headed to move the goats, the girls usually go with. This happens about 4-5 x's a day These two were racing me back like they do everyday Wiggly Happy Dog! Annie Cooling Off  She probably will go for visits to her other home but I think she is settling in here wonderfully! Let The Chicks Out!

Image
Wahoo! They are free birds finally !!! First we had to add a bit of chicken wire around the bottom of the fence so we don't hopefully fingers crossed have any mishaps. I can see it now, Peanut is trying to corral them and they are runnin for their little lives oh, not good ending ! Then Mtn Man made a ramp for them that is removable which will happen every night to hopefully keep big critters from getting to the locks.  Then we clipped one wing cause they are flying now. Again for no mishaps! One wing so at least they can still get a little lift when they have to. Open the door and they were little hesistant to leave but with a little encouragement they left the coup . It has been so hot they needed to get out of the coup in some real shade where they can peck at bugs and the grass. ******************************************************************************** Yesterday I worked a bit in the garden again. Only this time I gathered up the row of onions, some o...

Ready To Go!

Image
She was waiting for me to take her for a ride. Apparently for a while because I had no idea she was waiting I thought she was with Mtn Man, I should have known she's a momma's girl. This is truly what she would like to be doing  again! Soon Peanut soon! We just nailed down 200 acres to lease with potential for more which will take a lot of work to fence but very excited to be acquiring. We move the horses this coming week to the upper 30 acres after getting it fenced this weekend. So things are moving along nicely..... I have a mowing job, so the mower pays for itself, at the cemetery across the road and maintaining the grounds at the neighbors we lease from! Yeah!! Nobody may be interested, but it is a diary for us to keep track of........ Have a GREAT Weekend! Copyright © 2014 M.E. Masterson All Photographs Copyright © 2014 M.E. Masterson

Busy Warm Sunday

Image
It  hit a warm 60* here today!!! Can you see the grin from ear to ear?? So after getting Mtn Man off to his folks, I went to work cleaning that nasty mess in the hot tub . Drained it of it's ugliness then took it apart (whatever I could get my grimy hands on to clean) and cleaned (used ODOBAN) it thoroughly. Rinsed it, emptied again(shop vac is used for what is left, emptying it numerous times). Filled it completely added some H2o2 (35% Hydrogen Peroxide-Spa Science Brand) and then ran the jets running it through all the blowers and pipes only to find that there was some lingering uckies!! :( Empty again and yes, used the shop vac again for the third time! Wiped it out again to make sure I didn't have any lingering parts, with a lot of hope and confidence that this time surely it has to be clean I filled it again. Whew this time all was wonderful! This started today around 9 am and ended at 2:30 pm....Yes, I really like my hot tub and can't wait to use it again or should...
