I learn about the people as well as history and some skill that I may not have had in the past. Tonight is the Quilting Guild. This will be my second time there! Feeling like a chatter box today. That's what blogs are for, right? I decided since it was rainy and cold that I would brew up something in the ol' crockpot. So last night before bed I dusted off the ol' crock and went to work. I have jars of dry beans in my pantry so I picked up the 15 bean jar and poured out, in the bottom of crock, about half a jar which came to about 3 cups. Then added double that in water, I don't think you can have to much water add more if you think it needs it. So in my large crock this came to about 3/4's full. Then I let them soak until this morning about 8 am. I plugged 'er in, turned 'er on high and started addin' seasoning: 2 pinches of marjoram, parsley, basil and 1 pinch of thyme. About 1 tsp of black pepper and 2 tsps of Montreal chicken seasoning. Oh and don't forget like I did, a pinch of salt. Cut up a whole onion and add, then add a package of ground sausage (1lb), mine was frozen so I shed it of it package and...

Spring has sprung here on the ranch! The little bits of green can be seen and the brown is slowly disappearing. Yeah! In the last couple of weeks I decided to try Ranchwife's Panbread and I added a little bit of Italian herb after rubbing the bread down with olive oil and then baked it....it was delish! We have been busy with guests in our house, so I have been doing a lot of cooking on top of helping the guys with chores and such around the ranch. This girl has been truly busy!!! We so appreciate the help that has been coming, they have been helping with the much needed fencing. Takes a bit of stress of my hubby.......so he can spend the much needed time calving that will continue into the end of June it seems this year. Hopefully we can get that tightened up for next year........  I also have been able to get "Nana" a friend. Folks today was a cold windy day, so I needed to find something to keep my mind busy. So I decided to work on a quilt. I have had squares cut out on a couple of quilts and decided to work on my lady bug quilt. I love the colors, so bright and cheery! As I was working on this quilt, the Schwan's man showed up unexpectedly which was alright. After getting a few things from him, I decided to throw a big ham in the oven. I didn't have any pineapple that most people traditionally put on their ham. So I threw some peaches on the ham. Now mind you, this is a last minute decision so the ham was very frozen! I turned the oven on 350* threw the dressed ham in about noon and didn't take it out until about 4:30pm. Drenching it about every hour......turned out really yummy! Back to the quilt, I will have to see if I can find a backing that will work with these colors which means searching thru lots of material that I have packed in big garbage bags right at this time. It's Sunday Don't Ya Know! Sundays are our days off as much as you can have one on a ranch. The "Boys" have decided to get on the horses and go find whatever cows haven't drifted down. Us "Girls" and her boys are staying home to do whatever we do. Today I am gonna try to finish up this quilt that someone ordered this last spring. It is a memory quilt of sorts, kind of cool to see someone else's memories in full color. This will be a queen quilt when I am done. Last night I got the strips sewn together, today I will sew the strips together to make one piece. I really am getting excited to see this one done.......pretty cool! This morning I had to get my head screwed on straight so to speak, when the weather gets like this it takes some adjustment for my body. Well so far so good on the plumbing issue. Turned out we had to order a new pump as well. Seems the cold brings the worst out in the weak spots. We have had a variety of weather anywhere from Sunshine to Rain to Snow and Cold Cold Cold! This evening it is about 5* above zero but could drop below zero tonight. The moon is shining as are the stars it is beautiful! This week I have been working on a Queen Quilt which is turning out to be really pretty and will be very soft. The theme "Sexy " so I came up with this. Had to really ponder that but I don't think this is half bad for sexy! The other one I made is a twin and it's theme was "barbie and hannah montana". Tom is in the midst of finishing up my christmas present. A white leather mountain man style coat lined with felt material and accented with Navy Blue. It is really beautiful and almost done! Here we are already a few days into the new year! Hope yours is a prosperous one! We have been so busy since I last wrote. My hubby was off for 5 days for new years and I loved it! It was nice to just be us for awhile! We went to a birthday party on the 30th and had a great time. New years Eve we decided to stay home and couldn't even keep our eyes open to bring in the new year. LOL! The Next morning our fun began, what I mean is the temps up here have fallen to below 0 like -16! Even with two fires going we couldn't keep up with the cobbled together mess of plumbing and we FROZE UP! So we have a back up propane heater in the utility shed and got it hooked up and ran it for day and half . Still frozen, decision making time, decision being we were going to replace the cobbled mess and move it indoors! So off to Home Depot my hubby goes! Will he get everything in one trip? I stayed home to keep the fires going and make sure other things didn't freeze. He brings supplies a...

Here it is 4 days until Christmas! We received a few gifts today from a friend to put under our tree, which by the way are the first to be under our charlie brown leaning tree! Funny story about our tree, as you may remember we went out and found our tree rather quickly and then in a matter of 15 min had our tree decorated.....yes I hear you laughing , really you should see the tree it is quite hilarious! That evening we went over to a friends house to see the progress on his barn and returned to find the tree fell over! No wonder, we put the tree in loose sandy dirt we dug out of the snow in a rubber bucket and left. Laugh was on us! So now we have it wired to the wall and it has a slight lean to the right.......starts sounding like a Chevy Chase Christmas! Notice we took great care in mixing up the lights!!!! Incidentally we have had hung the two stockings up behind the stove and today it was suggested I move the large stocking as the things inside might melt! Someone put lots...

Today I had a heck of a time waking up and around here it seem to be the theme of the day! After rising at 9:30am I decided I better take my vitamins so maybe I could feel human. Let them take affect , talked to a friend or two and on to the rest of the day I went. I wanted to finish the King Quilt I have been working on so I could send it and it arrive in WA state before the Christmas mail rush! I did just that and it is washed and ready for shipping.......came out lovely! Last night we were again invited to the neighbors for dinner. At first I declined due to finishing the quilt but after about an hour and talking with my hubby we decided to take the offer. Her hubby wasn't home and she was having the missionaries over for a meal and custom is that they aren't allowed to be in the home without another male figure in the home. So we filled the spot! Checking things out on this here computer and again the power is out...mind you we have solar power and now I have to go out and start the generator so we have power again. Could use couple days of sun to restore everything but alas it is winter and the back up's are needed more often than not. Like I always say "It's camping but not!". Yesterday I finished the top for a King Quilt in colors of Blue. It still amazes me how these quilts come out the way they do. I go into them with no pattern in mind and out they come with there own style in the end. Can't believe its December already! The Holidays are upon us and I don't have any decorations up of any kind. Not sure I am going to this year we shall see. No tree either not trying to be bah hum bug about it but We are both really busy and it is just another holiday. We don't expect any family to come or friends really so what is the point! Anyways, the cabin is so full when it comes to winter time...with all the food storage that has to be in the house amongst other things. The temps have been around and under 0 lately and if you leave cans of things outside like foam sealant or soapy water it freezes, so it lives in the cabin in the winter. We have had vehicle issues lately, both trucks had no power due to bad batteries so yesterday my hubby picked up a couple batteries at Les Schwab and can't believe the prices....$100 a piece!! with a $5 core charge.
