This mountain girl is of the opinion that winter is not official until you have snow. We had a sciff already but woke to 7" of snow this morning and it is still coming down. It is a light fluffy snow! If you happen to be reading this and are not used to driving in this stuff please take my advice. STAY HOME!! Much safer place to be. Worrying about the cows all night I woke this morning to swollen eyes and bags. My eye has been a little sore the last couple days but it is rearing it's ugly head this morning. I think it is a result of worry and anxiety, I do have these bouts periodically. But I can't really do much for the cows as the waters are so high, we watched thru binoculars yesterday the creek rise and it got the highest we have seen it in a long time. This morning it looks like it is going back down or maybe this is my wishful thinking!!! The guys have headed out to see what the results were from last night and to open up the windmill pasture to let them back in for feed. We did see a bit of snow and the temps did drop some last night and the wind blew but woke to wet ground and a little bit of ice on the porch.  Peanut (Blue/Red Heeler Cross) and I went to town. Now when I take her with me she usually has a ball! We go to the bank where she gets dog biscuits, to DQ where the nice lady makes her a plain , very plain burger and she gets to smell the air in the city out the window. Today she treated me to her singing along with the music she is a bit particular about her music, Adele & Carrie Underwood are her favorites so far. Here are some pictures of the rest of our ride into Belle Fourche, SD. This is the closest big town for shopping which is about hour and half from the ranch. Today we experienced quite a few snow storms with a few white out systems. It was not the optimum time for calves to be born. But a cow missed the memo, and we ended up early this morning with a heifer. She was so cold, that we raced to get her back to the house to warm her up. Yes, we did try to bring her mama back with us but she did not want anything to do with that at all. So the guys went out and gathered her up to be joined with her mama later in the afternoon. Sometimes their hormones do weird things and they lose their minds, leaving their babies to fend for themselves, if we were not diligent they would die. But it turns out this baby is alive and she is healthy! I anxious for spring to come! Gotta get on my list of things to order for spring, like my little chicks. Yes gonna have me some chickens, with the price of gas goin up we have made an executive decision to get ourselves even more prepared! By up my extras now, and get things ready for our BIG garden. Well so far so good on the plumbing issue. Turned out we had to order a new pump as well. Seems the cold brings the worst out in the weak spots. We have had a variety of weather anywhere from Sunshine to Rain to Snow and Cold Cold Cold! This evening it is about 5* above zero but could drop below zero tonight. The moon is shining as are the stars it is beautiful! This week I have been working on a Queen Quilt which is turning out to be really pretty and will be very soft. The theme "Sexy " so I came up with this. Had to really ponder that but I don't think this is half bad for sexy! The other one I made is a twin and it's theme was "barbie and hannah montana". Tom is in the midst of finishing up my christmas present. A white leather mountain man style coat lined with felt material and accented with Navy Blue. It is really beautiful and almost done! Here we are already a few days into the new year! Hope yours is a prosperous one! We have been so busy since I last wrote. My hubby was off for 5 days for new years and I loved it! It was nice to just be us for awhile! We went to a birthday party on the 30th and had a great time. New years Eve we decided to stay home and couldn't even keep our eyes open to bring in the new year. LOL! The Next morning our fun began, what I mean is the temps up here have fallen to below 0 like -16! Even with two fires going we couldn't keep up with the cobbled together mess of plumbing and we FROZE UP! So we have a back up propane heater in the utility shed and got it hooked up and ran it for day and half . Still frozen, decision making time, decision being we were going to replace the cobbled mess and move it indoors! So off to Home Depot my hubby goes! Will he get everything in one trip? I stayed home to keep the fires going and make sure other things didn't freeze. He brings supplies a...

Last time I talked about Christmas Coming, now it has come and gone! We had a great mini vacation, lots of company and lots of dinners! This year was all about getting in touch with people and having a few laughs and not so much about what everybody was given or receiving , loved it! Our first Christmas together as a married couple wasn't much different than before...LOL! Both of my sets of parents have had anniversaries, one on the 24th and the other 27th. Interesting really! Wish them both well! Plans for the New Year? Not sure what we are doing yet. It has been snowing throughout the day suppose to be getting up to 6 inches tomorrow. We sure need it!!!

Here it is 4 days until Christmas! We received a few gifts today from a friend to put under our tree, which by the way are the first to be under our charlie brown leaning tree! Funny story about our tree, as you may remember we went out and found our tree rather quickly and then in a matter of 15 min had our tree decorated.....yes I hear you laughing , really you should see the tree it is quite hilarious! That evening we went over to a friends house to see the progress on his barn and returned to find the tree fell over! No wonder, we put the tree in loose sandy dirt we dug out of the snow in a rubber bucket and left. Laugh was on us! So now we have it wired to the wall and it has a slight lean to the right.......starts sounding like a Chevy Chase Christmas! Notice we took great care in mixing up the lights!!!!
