Critter Alert
Over the weekend we acquired three more ewes which makes 8 for our herd of hair sheep. These girls are settling in nicely. They are still getting used to the routine but as you can see after just couple days they are ok with their surroundings. They are a bit high strung but I have high hopes that they will settle down like the others have.
Goaty goat is surviving this cold. I have to tell another tale about Goaty Goat. Went out into the pasture like we do every morning and looked everybody over. 5 sheep-check(last week), 3 cows-check, 1 horse- check, where is Goaty goat? Mtn Man do you see the goat? Panic started to set in with me!! He yells back...hold on I see him. Just about that time I see a streak of brown pop up out of the hay. I wish I had a camera. There he was in front of the cows head who were eating hay, burrowed into the middle of the round bale. He was shivering a little bit. I figure he was getting warm in by their heads in the middle of the hay. Smart Goaty goat!!
And our Lyfa (Leaf-a) is showing her age. She has very poor eyesight. She is showing signs of arthritus causing her to limp. She has old injuries that cause her legs to be stiff. I keep her in the old goat pen so she can get around good. Not to far for water or feed. She gets grained twice a day to keep her weight up. I love beet pulp for her. She loves the warmth in her belly in the evenings! I cannot believe she is 25 yrs old! Her grandma was 36 yrs old when lyfa was 8. Love live the Egyptian Arabians!
The chickens (down to 9) have finally quit molting. As the fall came on and winter started they decided to molt. Not the smartest creatures I have! Ha Ha...They are looking tons better I have to say. They are spoiled for sure...the temps have been down in the minus categories. I provide a light (regular 60 watt bulb) and covered their hut with plastic tarps and old bed coverings to keep the warmth in. The sides have air vents covered with hardcloth which provides sufficient air flow.
They seem to be happy with the arrangement!
Hoping to have the rest of my edits in today!!
Then tomorrow they get sent off to the editing department by my publishing specialist!
I will be glad to have this portion done!! What a task! Whew!!
