Adventures Of Life!

Mtn Man took the day off Friday so, we could get some things done around the farm before the cold weather hits us this next week. We have been very fortunate or not, as of late with warm weather. Last night (thurs.), brought a cold that is affecting my arthritis something terrible! Despite all that, we soldiered on gathering wood. Mtn Man says it will be a 'woody weekend'. Hmmmm We cut off about 3 o'clock in the afternoon. I headed for the 'she shack' to work on fixing Lyfa's blanket. The buckle is broken so it has to be replaced. Easy fix!! Thank the lord for that! After gathering and stacking wood my arms can't take much more hard work for today! Well I am off to do a bit more editing on my manuscript. We have just enough of a break to open up the front door and let that FRESH air in! Believe me this house needs a bit of fresh air. Let me see if maybe I can paint an image your nose you can smell. When you walk into our house at any given time of the day....you will smell a hint of old house (musty, mildey, mousy, buggy, etc you get the point and if you haven't smelled this before well use your imagination), dog smell (old & young), whatever I have conjured up in the kitchen or is sitting on the wood stove, wood stove smoke, wood (cedar & pine), with a little smell (perfumed kaka most times) of whatever is wafting out of the bathroom (sits right directly next to the kitchen) that has just been used, grain smells from the pantry (this is where the animal feed is stored for the moment) and people funk from being cooped up in the winter time (you know what I mean). This is not to say I am a dirty house keeper...just not the anal one I used to be yearrrrrrssss ago. Our ho...

It was announced to me by Mtn Man when he woke up that he is bored! I said Already but you have only been up for a few minutes. No coffee yet!  So off he went this morning after breakfast to cut wood up! Thank goodness for a break in the weather so he can go DO something. He is going stir crazy. It oozes off of him when this happens which makes me feel anxious. Myself, I don't really get bored. I think I may have experienced this once in my life but didn't enjoy the experience so there ya go! I stay busy even if it means stretching something out to keep me busy. It is a learned behavior that is cherished by me in times like this.  We are looking to have another band of weather come through today thru tomorrow. Snow, Sleet, Freezing Rain turning into Rain by tomorrow. Probably flooding.....we shall see! I am off to Piddle 'Round The House doing laundry, dishes maybe some vacuuming.  Started a new beading project...something completely different than I norm...

For others. Melinda over at Country Dreaming has for the last few years been participating in a card shower for kids who are in a hospital local to her. This year I decided I wanted to participate too! I have been having so much fun with this. I went and bought a whole bunch of goodies and construction paper. And off I went to making cards! Having a blast! I believe I will do this next year! **************************************************************************** Farm Update: Well today we went up and hooked the log splitter up. The weather is fixin to change so we needed to stock up on the wood again.  Mtn Man started in on splitting while I went over and fixed the temp shed we made. I just swallowed a flying bug.... at least I think I did....or should I say chewed one up....oh gag a maggot (yes I really said that). I am trying to keep my BT(Bacon/Tomato Sandwich) down which I only half of because that gag reflex has been pushed! I was eating and looked down to see little legs wiggling in front of me on the inside of my sandwich, really in the mayo that was on my sandwich. yuck! No I would not be a good candidate for a survival show..... eating bugs is not a good thing! No offense to anybody...if I was starving...yeah I would probably devour it and try real hard not to think about it........yuck! I can guarantee that there would be some horking going on........ Tis the season for wood..... We started day before yesterday getting our winter supply in, filling the wood box (which really is the corner by the stove) and the front porch area. Then started a pile up by the wood stack. We worked up about a cord of wood...good start! Speaking of wood, Saturday th...

Got up this morning and these bones of mine were killin me!! Slept like the dead last night probably slept way to long. Frozen Pond So Mtn Man suggested we go on a walk to loosen things up. We started out about 10:30am moseying around the place until we hit the pond then decided to wonder back to the house. Mtn Man said he wanted to get the pantry shelves built today but I think and now know the "Man Upstairs" had other plans for us today. The Shed in Question in the Left Had Corner We wondered up by the ol' shed (24x8) out back and started talking about what to do with it. Hum ho'd around, should we lift it and add some support under there? Maybe cut some cedars about the length of the shed to brace it more? Or should be tear it down and reclaim the wood that is usable to build another or use it  for something else entirely?  After several attempts to lift the shed which only moved about an inch we had our answer. Ok, Lord got the message we were to tear...

 We went out this morning after breakfast and decided to gather up some TeePee Poles and couple house logs. TeePee Poles.......Done! 3 house logs and so many to go.....
