Good Day

Image
I started writing this post last week...busy lady here!! I will try again.... The cool weather is here now. Under 50 this morning with a cold wind blowing. We got a warning the other day that there might be chance of frost today. Not yet fellas!! I did manage to pull out the sweet potatoes and my oh my there are some biggins in there! We have a local Co-Op that is based out of Saint Louis. They deliver the goods you order every other week to our local town. It is similar to the Bountiful Baskets that I used to get in Montana. I Love it! This last time I got #50 of yellow onions for $18! Can't beat that!! #50 of potatoes for a little over $11... A bushel of green beans for a bit under $22....Wahoo! So you can imagine I went nuts! The time before I bought a #50 bag of carrots and #25 beets.....Yes, I have been canning my little heart out!! Our garden produced a fair bit this year but with all the rains (caused washout) we had, it still was not enough for our canning needs. Ve...

Farm News

Image
I was thinkin it probably is time for some Farm News! So here it goes.... The morning and days have turned off to be cooler. The evenings in the 50's and the days are in the upper 70's and lower 80's. Wonderful weather!! Heavy Dew in the mornin's!   I think the bugs know their time is limited so they are making their last hurra's doing what they do best "buggin ya"! ******************************************************************************* Mtn Man has been working on his shop a little. He is trying to get it mouse proof. One of the things he is doing now is putting in "squirrel frustrators" as he calls them. They are just little boards in the roof line to cover that little space. Here look at the picture.... I could see where they would get frustrated! ******************************************************************************  I got to hang my laundry on the line, finally! With our weather patterns it just wasn't hap...

Yellow Gate

Next is to paint the hut! Guess what colors I picked for it? My hens have slowed way down on production so I went hunting for some answers as to why? Here is what I found : I think mine are molting!  In other news on the farm.... had rain pop in as a surprise on Monday dropping 3/4" of rain in 20 mins. The garden is about to get tilled again. Pulled the last of the beans from spring planting. Carrots never came up. Hopefully I will be able to plant the beets here at the end of the month. You could go broke mowing in this country. It never stops growing!! And we are starting to see in our local markets the rise in egg prices!  As a side note....my first nail party has been a great success!!! So much fun! Have a great day everybody!! Love hearing from ya!!!! FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK TOO! https://www.facebook.com/adventuresofmylife Copyright © 2015 M.E. Masterson All Photographs Copyright © 2015 M.E. Potato Patch Pickin'

Image
Rain is coming! May  I thought I better get out in the potato patch and get them out of the ground before they start to mold! I noticed the potato bugs were starting to take over. June ...so I dug and dug and dug August and filled ...wait for it.....2--5 gallon buckets with Tators!! Now I will probably can these little buggers since some of them are effected by the bugs. I will keep a handful out for my Mtn Man as he loves fresh tators right out of the garden. Ok I am off to have a shopping day with my MIL today! Antique, Junk Stores! Have a wonderful Day!     Love hearing from ya!!!! FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK TOO! https://www.facebook.com/adventuresofmylife Copyright © 2015 M.E. Masterson All Photographs Copyright © 2015 M.E. Garden Goodies & Canning-Updated

Image
I finally was able to get out in the garden yesterday. Oh my goodness! I came out with a lot more than I thought was in there! Look for yourself I went to baggin up the jalapenos, okra and the green beans while I ate my only lemon cuke. So good! I put the squash in my bucket for eatin on later. I then sliced into the Sugar Baby watermelon! Oh it is sweet!!  Talkin about watermelon I had to go and look up when to pick them. I found this great video on Sugar Baby's. The tendril that is above the stem on the watermelon should be brown before picking the melon. It works! The roma tomatoes that filled my big bowl I had to do something with. I remembered seeing a post over at 5 acres and a dream on canning pizza sauce . I am on day one..started last night. Hopefully by tomorrow evening I will have the sauce in jars! Yeah! This morning I woke to sauce that was done....I turned it off and took the crock out of the cooler so it could cool! This cooked down to about a serving f...

Garden Update-Con't

Image
I was looking up how garden is said in different languages just for giggles. Because sometimes I get bored of my titles for my pages. So Mtn Man walks in and says well in Marquandian (Marquand is the nearest town to us) its called a Sweat Box! Good Morning!! I wanted to share that so we all can be in the asylum together! LOL! If you only knew...... Okie Dokie on to the garden. I planted my fall carrots on the 14th and beans on the 15th. Beets will be at the end of Aug and Turnips the beginning of Aug. Zucchini has officially bit the dust! I never thought one could kill a zuke plant! But it is official! Checking it over it looks like it made an attempt at producing but they rotted. There are new leaves coming on but I don't think it will produce much of anything. Will continue to monitor..... Pumpkin plant is not producing pumpkin... see for yourself Not sure what these are.....won't argue with God, we will eat them . Okra is growing beautifully. Not ver...

Updates

Good Morning Folks! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend wherever you are. Here in America the air smelled of BBQ's and Gunpowder! 239 yrs later the Big Boom from the fireworks hasn't gotten old! Hubby and I enjoyed a relaxing weekend....well somewhat relaxing...ha ha. We find working on our farm is relaxing. We worked in the yard and garden yesterday getting it mowed and tilled. Then we BBQ'd a couple pork steaks, baker potatoes and had a salad. It was refreshing after a hard days work! The garden has been producing beans, jalapeno peppers, crooked neck squash, acorn squash and we got our first tomato out of the garden yesterday! It needs to sit for couple days but it is colored! Pulled all the onions... have decided next year to not plant sets probably will try from seed to see if they do better. The sweets did alright but the sets did horrible. In fact the reason I pulled them is because they had green mold on them.... to much rain I suspect. This year the ...

Weekend RoundUp

Image
I got involved in a book and I couldn't put it down! It is by Rebecca Waters -Breathing On Her Own. I did not sleep a wink! Maybe I will get a nap in later today. Yesterday the Folks showed up with their work clothes on. We gave Dad his Father's Day card We worked on the yard mowing and trimming. We worked in the garden weeding and trimming. After all these rains we had the grass has grown a ton! We are so grateful that they came out to help on the farm! As the day went on the hotter it got and dried everything out nicely! Cleaning up I came across some interesting creatures...makes a person stop and soak up God's Wonders. Had no idea they came in this shade of color I counted 4 in this nest! Enjoy Your Day! May God Bless You In Your Endeavors Today! Love hearing from ya!!!!   FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK TOO! https://www.facebook.com/adventuresofmylife  Copyright © 2015 M.E.
