Got Water?

Image
Hope everybody had a wonderful weekend!  Went over and visited with Grandma J yesterday. It is always a joy to see her! Got home and went to spend some time in our shelter. Crazy winds (60 mph) whipped our trees around like they were sticks with flags on them! I haven't ever seen that here! We were under Tornado Watch and Severe Storm Warning. That eventually went by and then another came in last night with strong thunder, lightening and rain! The water is draining out the sides Woke to lots of flooding this morning....   It is good that my chickies have a big pen to roam in....  As in times past the water is flowing down our road.  The work that Mtn Man did on the creek did not hold up. In fact, you really can't even see what he did except on little island. It has washed out ! I was trying to find a pic without my rear in it ...sorry! But can you see in the background the mounds of dirt he banked up to control the flow..... not any more...

Quick Peek

Welcome New Friends......Take a look around and if any questions just holler (marye.masterson@gmail.com) love to hear from ya!! ******************************************************************************* I cannot remember if I told ya about moving the daffodils around. I have so many out front by the sidewalk that I wanted to move them to other places to live. Out by the teepee and the wet weather creek I moved some and in between the fruit trees. Oh and out back on the hill up from the deck. It took forever to get that many to move because the roots of the trees and the grass made for difficult digging. But I wanted to make a pathway with the daffodils because they are so thick. So I removed all that were in the way, really! So here are my pretties making their way in their new homes. TeePee and wet weather creek area...fruit trees to the right Up behind the back deck area...blue ribbon around red maple tree   I am so happy they like their new homes! I ...

Signs Of Spring

Image
On our farm today! The frogs are singing, started last night. The geese have been flying north all day. The hawks are mating. The daffodils are rising fast. Our first butterfly showed up today. 418 × 334 - wwx.inhs.illinois.edu The first of many bugs have showed themselves today. And the sun is shining brilliantly with no clouds. Temperatures close to 70........ It is quite here in our little valley. The sounds of spring is all you hear.....  If you want to leave a COMMENT please EMAIL me (MARYE.MASTERSON@GMAIL.COM) Love hearing from ya! Farm Updates

Image
We are expecting thunderstorms this afternoon into this evening, maybe or maybe not. They say there is a possibility for severe weather but not sure......then Sunday calling for storms once again. We are ready for whatever comes our way! On to the Farm updates:   The Chicken House is in place now ready for the fence. Mtn Man and FIL placed it yesterday with dry  concrete waiting for ground moisture or the rain to do the rest of the job. But as you can see they placed boards in place so it won't move, here's hoping! The purple marks on the grass are where I want posts for their(the chickens) "great yard" or their version of a "great room"! Mtn Man hung my laundry line up on Monday and I have to say it works like a champ! The garden is growing......potatoes and onions are up (companion planted one row), the plants I planted, all but 2 made it so far and some of the beets, broccoli, Brussels sprouts. Hoping the hail doesn't...

Preparing The Garden

Image
This is my view out my kitchen window.....I do love the smell of freshly plowed dirt. Yesterday FIL plowed it for the second time getting it ready for planting. They tell me that at the end of the month I can plant some things...I can't wait!!! In the meantime I had to transplant some of my starts that I started in peat pots. These are mostly squash(variety) and melons(variety) and they are doing well so far. They are a little slow in growing but I think that has to do with warmth. I put the peat pots in a tray(aluminum tray for large meals) and I think it is a little cold but they are growing despite my inadequate tray. Gotta do what I gotta do! :) Yes that is an ol laundry basket...came in handy! Next, transplanting the tomatoes into peat pots.....I hope I am successful! xxx my fingers! Something I learned the other day thanks to my FIL, if you go by your local County Extension Office they will provide you with all kinds of information on your growing se...
