New Road

Image
As most of you know our road is an old creek bed that floods when the rains come. This causes washout on the road and makes it difficult to travel unless you have a horse! I called our Road & Bridge Maintenance Office yesterday(Sunday) leaving a message asking for repairs on our road. They appeared this morning(Monday) early! They hung out on our road all day. Brought in loads of rock and fill to repair the road. Then the grader would smooth it out to make the road. It looks a ton better! And will probably be a bit easier to travel especially on our end. The Results: All this work is lovely BUT it has created another problem! My phone is out again...LOL! The grader must of caught a wire or moved the dirt around so much from the washout areas that now my phone no longer works. It worked in the morning before I headed out to mow. So sent out another repair order via the internet....  Upside at least I still have this for communication! LOL! All of this...

Need Water?

Image
Quick 15 minute little shower that dropped a lot of water! Enough that it laid my Potato, bean plants down. The tomatoes are staked now so they are good! I mowed JG's place this morning and right after I got home it started. It is all about the timing, right? Love hearing from ya!!!! Farm News

Image
Catching up on the Farm News: Lyfa has adjusted well to her new digs. She free roams, with a bell on, the pastures and when she is done she comes to the front yard to tell me. I take her back to her pen and we start again the next day. It works for both of us. The baby chicks as of last weekend have been officially integrated with the adult hens.  I started out by letting them out during the day to roam in the pen. Then they would come back to their little hut at night to roost. Then for three nights I would grab them from their roost and place them in the hen hut to roost on the side of the hen boxes, roosting bar on the front of it. After three days I shut their hut up to lovingly force them to go to the hen house at night and it worked. Now they live with the big girls. Nobody has been hurt or picked on in the process. They respectfully run when a couple of the "bosses" show up. They are doing great thus far! It has been a two week process. FIL came up yesterday wi...

UPDATES And A BIG Thank you

Image
Let me start with  Broody Hen: On Monday I wrote about my girl and her mood . Much thanks to Chicken Chick and her Brood Breaker, IT WORKED!!! Now this girl had been acting broody for probably a week and half if I really go back and think about it. If allowed these girls will hatch out a batch of eggs brooding for the full 21 days. She didn't need to as I have no rooster. Anyhoo, it took her a little bit longer(72 hrs) than probably most who are caught earlier(24 hrs). But am grateful it worked. Last night she went into the coop and was roosting with the rest. This morning I was greeted by a happy hen. I will now use it(cage) for my young trio that are growing like weeds. Adding a couple temp boards to the bottom of the cage so their little legs don't slip through. Multi uses!! ***************************************************************************** Some of you have been curious about my face! Well it has pretty much healed up. It still has a little bit of sca...

As we were evaluating what we were going to do today I happened to notice the asparagus in the garden. Not sure how I missed it until today oh I know the storms! So excited, despite our best efforts we still have food growing in our garden! LOL! Not sure how they made it through the marble size hail but thank you Lord! We will enjoy this little batch with a bit of goaty goat and brown rice!   *************************************************************************** Today was so beautiful that I decided to mow...first one for the year! It always smells so good. The fresh green cut grass and wild onions.  ************************************************************************* Tomorrow the garden gets plowed! Wahoo!! Post for tomorrow---hail damage and revamping the tornado shelter Have a great day everybody! Please pray for those affected by the tornadoes of the last couple days.....   Love hearing from ya!!!!
